UFOCapture Night Sky Observation Guide V2.0
4.2 Orbit calculation of meteors
Step 30 Installation of UFOOrbit
- Download UFOOxxx.zip
- Unzip UFOOxxx.zip and get UFOOrbit directory.
- Place UFOOrbit directory under the UFO directory which was created at Step 5-1
- If it is version up installation, overwrite old UFOOrbit directory by new one, so that all settings will be maintained.
- When your site locates outside of Japan, you should set up ground map for your location.
- There area several ground maps for UFOOrbit in the distribution site. Find a suitable map , download, unzip, and place it in UFOOrbit directory.
- If there is no map suitable for your observation, post a request message to SonotaCo Network forum.
Step 31 Collecting M.csv
- Collect same date M.csvs to one directory.
- Monthly directory is recommended such as D:\\CSV\2005\12\
- If you want to try , get some M.csvs from the forum below (You should select "GMe136n34_16.DAT" as ground map).

Step 32 Find simultaneous observation
You can find simultaneous observations as follows
- Select CSV Dir as the directory where are M.csvs.
- Push Read Dir button to read the directory and its all sub directories.
- Set search conditions below if you want.
- ID selection
- Default: all ID in directory.
- Push All ON to select all.
- Push All OFF to select none.
- Click the ID in the list to toggle ON/OFF of the ID.
- Date range selection
- Default: Latest 3 days.
- You can automatically set latest days by check Show Latest Days and the number of days.
- You can set manually the date range when Show Latest Days is off.
- Search Param
- Max Time Diff(sec) : maximum allowance of time difference.
- Min Distance(km) : elimination of the combination of near sites.
- Min Path Len(deg) : elimination of the short trails which may have big errors.
- Min Angle Diff(deg) : elimination of the same direction observation which may have big errors.
- Use alpha delta : use UFOAnalyzer's averaged path direction.
- Check Both Vg : elimination of the observation which leads abnormal speeds.
- When you want to see all input records, check Show Input check box.
- In this mode, you can draw trail map of single site observations.
- When you encounter some troubles, please delete UFOOrbit.ini in UFOOrbit directory.
Step 33 Get Results
There are a few parameters to grouping and orbit calculation. Normal use default value.
- Grouping Param
- dr(%) : Radiant position error allowance ratio to the err parameter in radiants list.
- dv(%) : Velocity allowance ratio to the v parameter in radiants list.
- +date : date range expansion to the date range in radiants list.
- Orbit Param
- kV : the measurement position of angle velocity (0.0=start point, 1.0=end point)
Map Control
- Reset size : set map size as 640x480.
- You can select results to draw.
- All ON: select all results including multi result of each time.
- All OFF: select none.
- Select Grp : select a group.
- Select 1/t : select one most reliable result for each time.
You can see result by opening each sheet below. Try view options.
You can get results by text(csv) file. Push Save U.CSV button, then U*.csv will be created to Our dir.
- Orbital element csv file U*.csv (sample)
