2.Set up

2.1 Required environment

• Video input device
  • Analog video signal capturing (recommended)
    • Capture hardware device and video signal source are required.
    • As a capture hardware, a video capture device which supports DirectX software video capture interface is required. A device which uses software encoder usually can be used as a input device of UFOCapture, but which uses hardware encoder usually cannot be used. Choose a device which can be used by Windows Movie Maker or Windows media encoder.
    • Capture hardware
      • PCI video capture / TV tuner card (Recommended)
        • This kind of device is widely sold and the cpu load is comparatively low.
      • USB2.0 external capture box
        • Can be used with notebook PC, but the cpu load is a bit high.
      • IEEE1394(DV) capture equipment
        • Resolution is limited to DVSD standards, the cpu load is high.
        • Read cautions.
    • Video signal source
      • C/CSmount video camera and its lens.
        • Recommended, many high performance camera is available.
        • For night sky observation, < 0.001lux B/W video camera and <F1.0 lens recommended.
      • Portable video camcoder.
        • Can be used as autofocus zoom video camera (Daytime only).
      • Video recorder.
        • Re-capture from stored video tapes/dvd can be done.
      • Video cable can be extended up to 10m or more.
      • FM video signal transmitter can be used.
  • USB web cam capturing.
    • Can be used as easy video and audio input device for test or daytime detection.
    • USB cables cannot be extended (Repeater cable often cause problems and is not recommended).
  • IEEE1394(DV) Video equipments capturing.
    • Can be connected directory to IEEE1394(DV)port of PC.
    • Almost all the DV camcoders can be used.
    • Caution on using IEEE1394(DV)
      • CPU load become rather high compared with analog capture, because of DV decoding process.
      • Inputted pixel XY-ratio does not 1:1.
      • Resize option can make pixel ratio true square, but it needs much performance.
      • Must be used with standard driver program provided by Microsoft "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR".
      • IEEE1394 cable cannot be extended.
• PC
  • Recent high performance PC is required.
    • OS: Windows Xp, Windows 2000
    • Memory: >256MBˆÈ�ã ( >512MB recommended)
    • HDD: > 5GB for wmv recording, >40GB for avi recording. Fast inner HDD is recommended.
    • Display: > 1024x768 ( >1280x1024 recommended), 32bit color mode recommended.
    • CPU : Depend on resolution , FPS, codec, masks, and other settings.
    • 640*480 30fps -> Pentium4 >2.4GHz or PentiumM >1.8GHz
      • 320*240 15fps -> Pentium3 >1GHz
      • wmv recording requires double power of avi .
      • Masks (Scintillation mask, Dark object mask.....) will require 50% more.
      • IEEE1394 and USB2.0 requires 30% more�B
      • When CPU load becomes over 95%, many troubles such as frame drop, hang up may occur.
      • HT-technology CPU or dual core CPU can be used.

• Softwares
  • Softwares below must be installed.
    
    • DirectX 9.0b or later
      • Downloadable from Microsoft corp site.
      • Many PC may be preinstalled.
      • You can check version of DirectX ,if it is installed, by "dxdiag.exe" in system32 directory of your PC.
    • Windows Media Player 9 or later
      • Downloadable from Microsoft corp site.
    • The driver program of your capture hardware
      • Capture hardware must be ready for running by its bundled applications and/or Windows Movie Maker or other capture programs.
  • Softwares recommended
    • Windows Movie Make 2 or later / Windows Media Encoder
      • Downloadable from Microsoft corp site.
      • Can be used as a test program of your hardware and its compatibility.
      • Can be used for re-compressing or editing of captured clips.
